About Course
What does HVAC Stand for?
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning
First of all, HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. It is a field of engineering and technology concerned with temperature control (heating and cooling) and air quality (ventilation) in industrial, commercial and residential buildings. The term is also used to refer to air quality and temperature control inside vehicles.
The three areas – heating, ventilation and air conditioning – are combined into one to form an HVAC system. An HVAC system provides a comfortable indoor environment that is not too cold neither too hot. Also very important, it ensures the continued flow of clean fresh air into the building and the removal of potentially contaminated air out of the building.
The entire process of installing and maintenance of an HVAC system is carried out by a trained and certified HVAC technician. This is a certified and licensed professional with comprehensive knowledge and experience in HVAC systems. Below, we are going to look in detail at the job description of an HVAC technician. This includes their duties, responsibilities, competencies and certification requirements.
In certain cases, HVAC technicians are also trained in refrigeration systems. You might therefore encounter the term HVACR sometimes, with the R representing refrigeration.
